WHAT IS LOCAL AREA TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT?
Local Area Traffic Management is an approach to identify and address traffic issues in a local area. It is a holistic approach that carefully considers existing traffic/parking requirements and plans for the future needs of the area. The process generally takes up to twelve months, involving analysis of traffic and parking data, community engagement, development of options, and Council endorsement of final projects to be undertaken. Outcomes are aligned with Council strategies and developed based on the following principles:
In order to achieve this, the outcomes of a LATM study include installation of physical devices to influence vehicle behaviour (i.e. raised intersections, road humps), traffic controls (turning restrictions, intersection priority changes), streetscape treatments, and parking controls.
