Australia Day Events 2025
Thank you for your interest. This consultation has concluded. Feedback received via Your Say Unley will be considered by Elected Members as part of their decision-making process.
We want your feedback on Australia Day events in the City of Unley for 2025.
In line with the Australian Citizenship Ceremonies Code, councils must hold a Citizenship Ceremony on Australia Day, or within three days before or after every year. A Citizenship Ceremony is the final legal step for most people becoming Australian citizens, where they pledge to uphold Australia’s democratic beliefs and respect the rights and liberties of its people.
At the City of Unley, we traditionally include the Citizen of the Year Awards (aka Australia Day Awards) in our January Australian Citizenship Ceremony. In 2024, this event took place on January 25th, the day before Australia Day.
Additionally, some councils choose to hold a community celebration to bring members of the community together. A community event is defined as an "event that is of civic, political, public, or educational nature". The City of Unley intermittently holds a community event, however, there was no community event hosted by the Council for Australia Day in 2024.
As we plan for our Australia Day program in 2025, we want to hear from you. We are keen to know your view on should the City of Unley host its Australian Citizenship Ceremony and Citizen of the Year Awards on or near 26 January 2025. Additionally, should the Council hold an Australia Day community event in 2025?
