The Community Bus Service is provided to assist all residents of the City of Unley to easily move about the City so they can participate in the community and have access to services.

In 2015, Council developed an Active Ageing Strategy which guides its approach in all of its activities as an Age Friendly City to ensure the Council meets the changing needs of its population throughout their lifetimes. Focus Area 2 of the Strategy, “Transportation” identifies the review of the Community Transport Service to consider the community’s needs, demand and opportunities for expansion.

Focus Area 2 of the Strategy, “Transportation” identifies the review of the Community Transport Service to consider the community’s needs, demand and opportunities for expansion.

In June 2015, the Chief Executive Officer initiated a review of the Community Bus Service. The objective of the review is to understand the current level of service, identify opportunities for service delivery improvement and recommend options for the appropriate number and type of vehicles to be used to deliver the service.

Council currently operates three programs as part of the Community Transport Service these are:

Fixed Route Service
This service is provided to all local residents. The community bus operates on a fixed circuit three times per day (Monday to Saturday). Passengers can make a donation to use the service.

Door to Door Service
This service is provided to residents of the City that require assistance to visit a shopping centre. The service is offered at a small fee and shopping centres visited include the Unley Shopping Centre, Castle Plaza, Mitcham Shopping Centre and Burnside Shopping Village.

Charter Service
The communty buses are available to hire for eligible not-for-profit and community groups. Fees for hire range from $38 to $200.
