Unley Oval is a treasured regional open space in the heart of the City of Unley. The Precinct is home to established sporting clubs, including Sturt Football Club, Sturt Bowling Club, Sturt Lawn Tennis Club and Sturt District Cricket Club, and serves as a popular community hub, appealing to visitors from within the City of Unley and across metropolitan Adelaide.

Consultation on a Permanent Perimeter Fence

The Council is seeking community feedback on design concepts for a permanent perimeter fence with public access openings around Unley Oval. Currently, much of the southern half of the oval is already enclosed.

Council commenced community consultation on the potential installation of a perimeter fence around Unley Oval in June 2024. The purpose of this consultation was to gauge community support and better understand the concerns and benefits associated with a fence.

Feedback from this initial consultation informed the development of fence design concepts, focusing on:

  • Location of the fence around the oval;
  • Access points for community use;
  • Safety considerations for both oval users and spectators; and
  • Aesthetic appeal that aligns with Unley’s character.

In April 2025, the Council approved several fence design concepts for further community consultation. This stage of consultation aims to identify the community’s preferred design for a fence around Unley Oval, with the following options now open for feedback:

  • Langham Terrace – 2 options
  • Frederick Street – 4 options
  • Trimmer Terrace – 2 options.

How to Get Involved

You can review the proposed fence design concepts and share your preferred option by completing our online survey. This consultation closes at 11.59pm, Thursday 10 July 2025.

Hard copies of the designs and survey are also available at the Unley Civic Centre, Unley Library, and Goodwood Library during opening hours. Please visit the Help Desk or Reception to request a hard copy of the survey at each location.

Each survey contains a unique code for validation. Completed surveys must be returned by Thursday 10 July 2025 - either by scanning and emailing your response to pobox1@unley.sa.gov.au or by delivering it in person at the Unley Civic Centre or either library during opening hours.

Next Steps

Following the consultation, community feedback will be reviewed and summarised in a report, which is expected to be presented to Council on Monday, 25 August 2025.* This report, along with other considerations, will assist Council in deciding whether to endorse a final design or not proceed further with the project.

* Subject to the volume of feedback received and the time required to appropriately address matters that may be raised.

Please take the time to participate in this survey to help shape the future of Unley Oval.
