Goodwood Main Street - Concept Design now available for comment
The Concept Design for Goodwood Main Street is now available for review, and we want you to be involved!. We want the community to be central to the design process leading to a streetscape transformation in 2016.
The under-grounding of the power-lines between the tramline and Victoria Street will commence in late 2015 and provides Council with an opportunity to improve the presentation and appeal of Goodwood Main Street.
The concept design responds to the 2009 Goodwood Precinct Urban Design Framework (UDF) as well as feedback provided by the community during April 2015 regarding the range of opportunities to improve the usability, function, character and sustainability of the village.
From the Community Forum, drop in sessions and online surveys under taken in April, Council received over 100 responses that have been used to inform the design direction. The concept reflects the community's support for the opportunity to undertake a 'Streetscape upgrade and improvements to the pedestrian environment'.
In particular, the community told us the upgrade should:
- Improve the condition and appearance of paving, to achieve a more open pedestrian setting appropriate to Goodwood's character
- Improve the quality of lighting along the road and footpaths, as well as maximise opportunities for greater feature lighting of facades and art pieces
- Increase landscaping/greening across the precinct to improve shade, amenity and influence local speed and road noise
- Improve the quality of furniture along the street, integrating art into the design and ensuring appropriate locations to avoid the clutter of narrow footpath (including cycle facilities)
We want to know what local businesses and the local community think of the streetscape concepts. The Concept Design and survey is now available:
