Goodwood Precinct Urban Design Framework (2009)

CLOSED: This discussion has concluded.

City of Unley identified a need to develop a strategic direction for revitalising the Goodwood Road main street precinct, between the tram line crossing in the north and Clifton Street in the south.

Council commissioned the Goodwood Precinct Urban Design Framework (UDF) in February and it was endorsed in August 2009 as the future action plan and vision for the Precinct.

The aim of the UDF was to:

  • Enhance the heritage and culture of the Goodwood Community and its environs
  • Improve safety
  • Promote economic development
  • Attract investment

The UDF proposed the following Guiding Principles:

  • Respect and build on the distinctive "funky and eclectic" (and historic) sense of place of the Goodwood Precinct
  • Enhance the pedestrian environment and ‘tame’ the car
  • Improve access to Goodwood Road – by foot, tram, bus, bicycle and car
  • Animate street level activity – day and night
  • Increase local residential population within the Precinct
  • Strengthen the local economy and services to the community

The UDF was intended to identify an overall framework to direct or co-ordinate future investment and initiatives within the Goodwood Road Precinct. Since 2009, Council has worked with State authorities as well as other local partnerships to undertake a range of short and medium term actions identified in the UDF that have aimed to improve the usability, function, character and sustainability of the Precinct.

The 2009 UDF can be downloaded from the Document Library of the Goodwood Main Street Upgrade 'Yoursay' page.
