What new programs should we run with young people this year?
This consultation has now concluded. Thank you to everyone for their fantastic ideas.
We will now work to make some of these a reality, in partnership with young people.
We want your input on the best way to spend $10,000 on new programs for young people. We particularly want to hear from young people themselves.

While the upgrading of the skate facilities and the park have been warmly welcomed - additional infrastructure is still needed. Better lighting is required to enable opportunities for evening skating (particularly in the winter as its dark very early) - and also for safety for those walking from the transport and street systems in the area. Also there needs to be a drinking fountain closer to facilities. Finally the installation of a skate rail and a half-pipe commonly seen in other skate parks in Adelaide would further enhance the activities young people can engage in there.

Workshops on a range of street art, from aerosol painting, to yarn bombing, to more emerging forms. The idea would be to get young people thinking about how they can activate and revitalise spaces - and maybe having the confidence to apply for grants/ permission to do so.
1vhpsaover 8 years agoMeditation and Vedic chanting camps
With meditation, the physiology undergoes a change and the body is filled with more prana (energy). This results in joy, peace, enthusiasm as the level of prana in the body increases. Meditation also brings the brainwave pattern into an Alpha state that promotes healing. UNESCO proclaimed the tradition of Vedic chant a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity on November 7, 2003. Ancient seers of Bharat (India) identified certain specific sound vibrations that bring the mind to a state of calmness and peace besides bringing other benefits. These sounds are called mantras. They allow the mind to dissolve and repose. Young children who are constantly bombarded with information, technology and gadgets in our fast paced world, need help to compose and reflect. We can inculcate best values and ethics by engaging them in quiet reflections and this can only be achieved through mediation. As Vedic chanting adds beauty to meditation, this program will help our young generation improve their analytical ability and decision making capacity. Little can be understood about this in words – you truly need to experience it yourself.

~ a place and time for kids to get together and play Minecraft or other digital games together. They will make new friends and it will lead to them having more active play options in the long run, because of those additional friendships and contacts.

Open the toy library for the same opening hours as the rest of the library. My wife and I have been promoting this idea for years without success. It's a no brainer!
