Tell us what you think about the proposed streetscape improvements along Stage 4 of Wilberforce Walk.

We are seeking your feedback on proposed streetscape improvements along Stage 4 of Wilberforce Walk between Leah Street and Nairne Terrace.

Wilberforce Walk follows the Brownhill Creek alignment, serving as a key walking and cycling route linking Anzac Highway to Forestville Reserve, Unley Swimming Centre, the Mike Turtur Bikeway and the Marino Rocks Greenway.

The proposed streetscape improvements include the following (detailed on the Concept Design Plan):

  • Priority pedestrian raised crossing (wombat crossing) on Leah Street at Wilberforce Walk, approximately 25 metres north of Nichols Street.
  • Raised continuous footpath across Nichols Street at Leah Street to improve pedestrian access, slow down traffic and prioritise safety.
  • Two single lane slow points with bicycle bypass lanes and landscaping on Nichols Street to improve traffic safety and make it easier for people to bike, encouraging cycling for transport and recreation.
  • Raised continuous footpaths across Charles and Ethel Streets at the Nichols Street approaches to improve pedestrian access, slow down traffic and prioritise pedestrian safety.
  • Bicycle sharrows to indicate that cyclists share the road with vehicles and improve route visibility.
  • Intersection improvements at Nichols Street and Nairne Terrace to better connect walkers and cyclists to the Marino Rocks Bikeway, and improve compliance with Nairne Terrace’s one-way northbound traffic flow.
  • Improved lighting in areas where new improvements are proposed to enhance safety at night.

The proposed improvements will result in:

  • the removal of seven (7) on-street car parks on Nichols Street between Leah Street and Nairne Terrace to accommodate the proposed two single lane slow points with bicycle bypass.
  • the creation of approximately an additional 110 metres square of greening opportunities.
