What is a Community Plan?
All South Australian Councils are required under the Local Government Act 1999 to have a plan outlining what they want to achieve on behalf of their community.
At the City of Unley, we call this document our Community Plan. Its purpose is to set a long-term vision and goals for the future to guide important decisions such as:
The Community Plan outlines:
A Vision – the road map for our city.
Themes – the key aspirations to achieve the vision for our city.
Goals – a description of where we want to be in the future for each theme.
Objectives – the specific results we aim to achieve for each of our goals.
How is the Community Plan delivered?
The Community Plan is a comprehensive community vision for the City of Unley that looks into the future.
The Community Plan works in conjunction with a Four-Year Delivery Plan, outlining the services and activities Council will undertake to achieve the community’s long-term goals.
Supporting the Four-Year Delivery Plan is a separate Annual Business Plan developed at the beginning of each financial year. The Annual Business Plan details the individual projects and activities that will be undertaken during each year to achieve the commitments in the Four-Year Delivery Plan.
These projects and activities are resourced through Council’s annual budgets, which are prepared in conjunction with the Annual Business Plan. A Long-Term Financial Plan is also required to outline how Council’s plans can be resourced over the next 10 years.
Once the Community Plan review has been completed and any changes to the Plan have been adopted, the new Community Plan will guide the preparation of all future City of Unley plans and strategies.
Why is the Community Plan being reviewed?
We review our Community Plan from time to time to make sure it responds to new challenges and opportunities and meets the changing needs of our community.
The current Community Plan was revised in 2017 and set out a vision, goals, and objectives for Unley in 2033.
This review will assess what has changed since we prepared the current Plan and address any opportunities or gaps in our long-term planning as we move Towards 2050.
How will the community be involved in the review of the Community Plan?
This consultation provides an opportunity for the community and stakeholders to have early input about what is important to them as we head Towards 2050.
We’re asking for feedback about your vision for the City of Unley to help us identify if there are any gaps or opportunities that need to be addressed in our long-term planning.
The outcomes of this consultation will be presented to Elected Members and targeted stakeholder groups to consider how well the current Community Plan responds to future community needs and aspirations and work out what changes are needed.
The next step will be to prepare a draft Community Plan that includes the necessary updates. The draft Community Plan will be released for further public consultation, providing an opportunity for you to have a further say in mid-2024.
