Call for Volunteers: UniSA research study on downsizing your home for over 50s

12 March 2014

Are you over 50 years of age?

Have you considered downsizing but decided not to?

Are you considering downsizing but it all seems “too hard”?

If so, would you consider speaking to researchers about your experiences?

Researchers from the Consumer Research Unit (CRU) in the Faculty of Law at the University of Western Australia and the University of South Australia Law School, are interested in speaking to seniors about obstacles to downsizing.

The research team is undertaking research, funded by a National Seniors Australia Productive Ageing Grant, to determine whether more Seniors would choose to downsize if there was a greater variety of housing options available within existing communities. The research seeks to determine ‘what seniors want’ and get their thoughts on new housing concepts, for example pocket communities, that are starting to emerge.

The research team are seeking volunteers to speak to us about Seniors’ experiences and opinions.

It is anticipated the research will provide information as to:

  • the reasons Seniors - who may otherwise choose to do so - do not downsize;
  • whether they would do if there was a greater availability and choice of alternative housing models; and
  • what needs to be done from a legal, planning and/or policy perspective to make this happen.

 The research compliments recent discussions in Australia and abroad about impediments to downsizing and impact on housing availability for other generations and on the overall property market.

All information given will be in the utmost confidence. If you participate, your responses to interview questions will be kept confidential. At no time will your actual identity be revealed.

You are under no obligation to participate and if, after speaking with us you decide not to continue there is no obligation to do so.
