Share your ideas for community climate action.

Help us understand how the changing climate is affecting life in Unley and what action our community can take for a more climate resilient future.

We want to hear from people who live, work, study or run a business in the City of Unley.

Your everyday experience is exactly what we are looking for!

Choose one or all 3 ways to contribute:

  1. Take the community and business survey (around 8 minutes)
  2. Complete an expression of interest to join the Community Panel
  3. Share your ideas or possible projects on the ideas boards

Input is open from Friday 24 April to Sunday 17 May.

Let’s find local solutions that work for the Unley community.

This is the first step towards a Community Climate Action Plan, co-designed with the community with a mix of community-led and Council-supported actions.

What we hear through the survey and ideas boards will be shared with the Community Panel, who will develop priorities and practical ideas. These ideas will be presented back to the broader community for further input later in 2026.

3 ways to contribute to developing the Community Climate Action Plan.

Themes we are exploring

Learn more about each area, including the main emissions sources for our community, our key climate risks and the importance of working together.

Reducing energy emissions

Electricity accounts for 24% of Unley’s community emissions, and gas makes up 17% of emissions.

Electricity will become an increasingly low emissions energy source, as South Australia aims for 100% net renewable electricity generation by 2027. Therefore, gas use in homes and businesses is one of the areas the community may wish to explore, as well as energy efficiency, generation, storage and use.

Reducing transport emissions

Transport is Unley's largest source of community emissions at 44%.

With Unley located close to the Adelaide CBD and many residential trips being relatively short, understanding community experiences and perspectives on transport is an important part of developing the Community Climate Action plan.

Reducing waste emissions

Waste accounts for 7% of Unley's community emissions.

Understanding the environmental impacts of both what we buy (e.g. how things are manufactured and transported) and what we dispose of is an important part of developing the Community Climate Action Plan.

Preparing for a changing climate

Heat, drought, flooding and storm events have always been part of life in Unley. Climate change is making these events more frequent and intense and will affect quality of life unless action is taken to minimise impacts.

Communities that can work together are better prepared for extreme weather and future challenges. Building community connections will help build climate resilience.

When we think about climate action, we need to also think about making sure the whole community will benefit, and that we can move forward together.

This project is part of Unley's commitment to the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy and delivers objectives of Unley’s Community Plan (Goal 2.2 and Goal 2.5).
