What is happening at North Unley Park?

The City of Unley is developing a North Unley Park Master Plan to understand the communities vision for the Park and guide the future development and maintenance of this important recreational open space.

North Unley Park is a fully enclosed Park located along Parklands Creek and measures 4500 sqm in land size. It is a recreational reserve for many locals, however, the design of the park has its challenges with stormwater management and the creekline topography that limit the possible usage of the park. Over time, some areas of the park have become underutilised, overgrown and concerns have been raised regarding the access and passive surveillance of the park.

The Plan will consider many aspects of the park and our ‘Living City Open Space Strategy’ outlines the importance of this park and elevating North Unley Park to a ‘Neighbourhood Park’ status.

Final Master Plan

The North Unley Master Plan was endorsed by Council in June 2022. The Master Plan sets up a long-term vision for change at North Unley Park and brings together key ideas and values from the community that will provide a guide for future decisions across the Park.

Council will look for opportunities to fund the recommendations in the plan through existing asset renewal programs and external funding opportunities.

A copy of the final Master Plan can be found here.

How community got involved?

The City of Unley undertook a community engagement process to understand and appreciate the range of views and experiences to develop a shared vision for the future of North Unley Park.

There was great local interest and participation in the engagement process with over 150 people contributing through face-to-face and online methods. Diverse responses were gathered through each method of engagement. This included the participation of 2 reference groups (Living Young Reference Group and Active Aging Alliance), 48 responses to the Online Survey, internal stakeholder groups, over 80 attendees at the Community Engagement Day and 185 visits to the YourSay Website.

Phase 2

The purpose of the second phase of consultation is to raise community awareness of the proposed Master Plan and seek community feedback for overall Principles as well as the 15 key actions which reflect the community’s aspirations for the park and its long-term future.

The City of Unley is developing a Master Plan for North Unley park to better understand the current and future recreational needs of the community. Unley has less than 3% recreational open space and the Council recognises our existing parks need to provide more flexible and inclusive spaces for people.

North Unley Park is located along Parklands Creek, within a 5-minute walking distance from the local businesses along Greenhill and King William Road and the residential neighbourhood. The Park is a valuable open space however, over time areas of the park have become underutilised and is in need of an upgrade. We also acknowledge the historic community concerns raised with Council to provide better access and passive surveillance to the park.

We are inviting you to take part in this short Survey to help shape the future of this park. This will help us understand how you currently use the park, and what is important to you about the future of the park and assist in the development of the draft master plan which we will be presenting to the community over the coming months.
